Imagine you have to choose 5 readings for a Catholic Funeral. You have to explain to the family of the person who has died why you have chosen these readings.
1.Before you begin choosing the readings, you should decide on a scenario for your Funeral. This will help you choose Readings that are appropriate:
Scenario 1: An elderly Christian woman dies quietly in her sleep OR
Scenario 2: A middle-aged Christian man dies after a long battle with cancer OR
Scenario 3: A Christian person in their 20s dies in an accident.
2. Choose 5 Readings for a CATHOLIC funeral.
Three of the readings will come from Scripture (The Bible). A good site to find Scripture readings for funerals is here
Two of the readings can come from other sources (like poems or meaningful, reflective stories). A good site to find suitable readings is Poems for Funerals (but there are also many other sites)
3. You must submit an explanation of why you chose this reading (at least 75 words long), that includes the following information:
An explanation of why you chose this particular reading, which might require you to explain who will be attending the funeral, and what their level of grief might be.
An explanation of why the reading is suitable for a Catholic funeral. For example: what key beliefs about death or life after death does the reading remind people of, or help to explain for them (Use Topic 4 to help you with this). It might help if you explain some of the symbolism in the reading, and ask yourself: what is the author trying to teach us through this Reading?
Presentation:
You can present your assignment as a simple report to the family (in Pages).
The readings must be printed in the report that you submit, and they must be correctly referenced.
You will only have one lesson of class time to work on this assignment. The rest must be done in your own time. You can email a draft to your teacher to check, but you should definitely get one of your friends (or family) to look over your work before you submit it. Your teacher will give you the due date for the assignment.
